Greenhouse and glasshouse weddings have become one of the most requested looks for couples who want an outdoor feel with a roof overhead: glass on every side, plants and string lights, the sky above the dance floor. If you're planning one in Pennsylvania, here's what to know before you book, and how the Garden Atrium at Chelsea Sun Inn, opening spring 2027, fits the picture.

What counts as a greenhouse wedding venue?

The term covers a few different spaces: working greenhouses at nurseries and farms, conservatories at botanical gardens, and glass pavilions built for events. They share the same appeal: natural light, greenery and a view through every wall. They differ a lot in comfort, capacity and what's included, which is where the questions below come in.

Eight questions to ask before you book

  1. How does it handle a hot, sunny afternoon? Glass collects heat. Ask what the venue does about it, and visit at the hour your reception will start.
  2. Which months can you use it? Many glass spaces are seasonal. Get the exact months in writing.
  3. How many guests fit for dinner and dancing? Capacity for a standing cocktail hour and a seated dinner can be very different.
  4. What happens in rain? Ask how rain sounds on the roof during speeches and whether the ceremony has its own backup.
  5. Is it shared? At a public garden or nursery, other guests or events may be nearby on your day.
  6. What's included? Tables, chairs, linens, lighting and décor are included at some venues and rented separately at others.
  7. Where do guests stay? Many greenhouse venues have no lodging, so guests drive to hotels after the party.
  8. What does the photographer say? Glass is beautiful but reflective. Ask to see real wedding galleries shot in the space, day and night.
