A glass atrium changes how you decorate. The walls are the view — mountains, a lake, the forest, the evening sky — so the job of your décor isn't to build a backdrop, it's to frame one. Here's how to decorate a glass-walled reception so the room still feels finished, with ideas for centerpieces, greenery and lighting that suit the Garden Atrium at Chelsea Sun Inn, opening spring 2027.

Decorate the view, not over it

In a ballroom you add everything; in a glass room the setting is already doing most of the work. Chandeliers overhead, greenery along the glass and warm light after dark mean your décor budget goes further. Start by deciding what you want guests to look at — the mountains at golden hour, the lake and its fountain, the stone mansion — and keep the sightlines to it open.

Keep centerpieces low (or tall and clear)

The rule that matters most in a glass space: don't wall off the view, or your guests from each other. Low, lush centerpieces — a long run of greenery and candles down the table, or compact seasonal arrangements — keep the glass visible from every seat. If you want height, use thin glass or metal stands with the florals lifted above eye level so the view shows through underneath. Save the big statement pieces for the entrance and the bar, where they won't block a table.

Plan a day look and a night look

Glass does something no other venue does: it changes completely from afternoon to night. In daylight the room fills with sun and the view is the star; after sunset the glass turns reflective and the chandeliers and candles take over. Pick a palette and a lighting plan that work for both — soft neutrals and greenery read beautifully by day, warm candlelight and string or café lights make the night glow. Time the change to golden hour so the shift feels like part of the evening.

Greenery and florals that suit glass

Greenery is the natural partner for a glass space — it echoes the garden outside and softens the hard edges of the panes. Think trailing vines along the glass, potted olive or ficus in the corners, and loose, seasonal arrangements rather than tight formal ones. Because the Garden Atrium already has greenery and chandeliers built in, many couples add florals in just two or three places — the head table, the entrance and the bar — and let the room carry the rest.

Lighting: chandeliers, candles and the glow after dark

The Garden Atrium has chandeliers and warm lighting throughout, so your lighting is about layering, not starting from scratch. Candlelight at the tables, a few uplights on the greenery, and string or café lights overhead give you the warm, golden look couples want in photos. If you're planning candles or any open flame, ask us what's allowed in the space before you order — glass rooms and real flame are worth a quick conversation, and we'll tell you exactly what works.
